January 31, 2007

It has been a while since we have shared news from HHI and there is many exciting results, outcomes and events to report.

HHI'S FIRST YEAR RESULTS
This week marks HHI's first anniversay of our 2006 launch in India, and HHI has grown by leaps and bounds ever since! In these first 12 months we have these results to be proud of:

- HHI worked in 2 countries, India and Russia
- HHI led 21 trainings for 285 low-income or unemployed women
- These women are providing improved care for at least 1,470 orphaned children

UNPREDICTABLE MIRACLES
Vijaya Lakshmi, an HHI trainee from last February, was bubbling with pride to tell about a minor miracle she recently caused. Her friend's elderly mother was in a great deal of pain, had partial paralysis of her arms and legs, and after weeks in the hospital - she was showing no improvement.

Vijaya Lakshmi contacted the doctors at the hospital and proudly told them that she was trained in healing massage which she learned from HHI (we teach baby massage). She offered to give massage to this woman daily - for free. Everyone agreed and within a few weeks time this woman showed radical healing and walked right out of the hospital! The entire staff was astounded and inspired! Vijaya Lakshmi was so proud! She was honored in this woman's village with a celebration and the has family returned to normal.

HHI's FOUNDER SPEAKS FROM HER HEART
Recently HHI's Founder, Laura Peterson, was asked to share her experiences as a Social Entrepreneur with SustainAbility, a corporate think tank in Europe. Although, Laura shared her thoughts, the email was titled, "Rant & Rave - Not to be Published". But, alas, these words needed to be shared and were posted on their blog on January 6th.

OUR THANKS GO OUT TO
The students of Corvallis High School who reached out beyond the facts and figures, and learned the real life experiences of the people devastated by the 2004 tsunami. On January 9th, Melissa Queen, Jake Thompson, Claire Gibbons, Brad Nelson, and Marinna Guzy, acted as global citizens and hosted a benefit dinner with the support of Evergreen Restaurant. The proceeds will support the on-going efforts of HHI in the tsunami-devastated area of South India, providing jobs for disadvantaged women who in turn, provide nurturing care for orphaned children. We really do get to make a difference in our world and the students of CHS are learning a value lesson – that we are all connected. So, again, on behalf of the women and children, thank you for your humanity.
