Hands to Hearts International (HHI) is a non-profit organization that works in developing countries to train caregivers to improve the early development of orphaned and vulnerable children.

1) Development Intern offers the successful candidate the opportunity to learn more about fundraising through grant writing. Applications are currently being accepted and the position will remain open until filled for the summer. This is an unpaid position, can receive school credit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research grant opportunities and identify the best fit for to support HHI’s operations and specific programs in India and Uganda.
  • Grant writing and submission.
  • Update Salesforce database of contacts, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.
  • Assist with correspondence to donors.
  • Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions, dependable and punctual.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Self-directed and willing to take initiative.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Grant writing coursework, preferably graduate level and/or professional grant writing experience.

Commitment:3-6 months, beginning asap, 15 – 20 hrs/wk. Position open until filled.

2) Graphic Design Intern - offers the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience and build their resume and portfolio with international exposure. This is an unpaid position, school credit possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to understand how design can best benefit HHI’s programs, both in US and abroad. Recognize the various HHI audiences and help guide how we can best speak to each.
  • Assist with design and production of printed and marketing
  • materials, including publications, PP slide shows, table display, and flyers.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Balanced portfolio demonstrating design and computer aptitude,
  • including experience with single- and multi-page layout and photo manipulation.
  • Experience in ALL of the following software programs: Adobe
  • Photoshop CS3 (or newer), Adobe Illustrator CS3 (or newer), Adobe InDesign CS3 (or newer), and Adobe Acrobat.

Education and Work Experience:

Candidate should either be working toward a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design.

3) Sales & Marketing Intern - seeking a mature, responsible self-starter with marketing experience. Position will work on building the sales market for HHI’s instructional Baby Massage DVD, which in turn funds the good works of HHI in developing countries. The product was filmed by an Oscar nominated film team, has sub-titles in 18 languages (for international applicability) and is packaged in 100% recycled materials. The DVD is currently selling well in New Seasons Markets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize HHI’s research of US stores, hospitals and government agencies with a vested interest in providing products to promote infant health.
  • Crafting proposals to variety of markets, determining pricing structure, minimum orders,
  • Creating personal contacts whenever possible and delivering proposal and continuing to follow up to close the sale and encourage further sales.  Track contacts, proposals, follow-ups and outcomes of sales once DVD is in a store.
  • Researching DVD duplication and packaging for best prices.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will be working towards an MBA with a focus on marketing.
  • Successful and proven skills in: proposal writing, market research, communication, detail-oriented work, creative thinking and talented in identifying new market opportunities and outreaching to buyers.
  • Knowledge or experience in entrepreneurship, non-profit and international development work.

Commitment: Beginning immediately, six months, 8-12 hrs/wk, financial incentives are possible.

4) JOURNALISM INTERN - seeking a mature, responsible self-starter with solid and varied writing experience. Position will work on building the recognition of HHI’s successful public health work in India and Uganda. Projects can be done remotely, position is unpaid, school credit is possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Interest in international development; public health, women's and children's issues.

Strong writing and editing skills

Individual must be capable of effective communication, organization, detail-oriented work, creative thinking, and working independently.

Writing monthly newsletter copy,

Updating website and social media content, as well as updating media list.

Create minimum of 2 original magazine articles, submit to appropriate magazines or media outlets.

Create a monthly giving campaign and donor/sponsorship levels to build fundraising capacity.

Create other support documents and materials to support growth of HHI.

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will be working towards a degree in Journalism, English, or Communications, preferably at the graduate level.

Experience conducting interviews and reviewing materials to creating unique and compelling written content for website, blog, newsletters and other outlets.

Success in publishing original and professional stories in a variety of media outlets.

Experience in using a media lists and communicating with editors to pitch stories to their publications.

Familiarity and success at building engaged followings on social media sites - FaceBook, Twitter, etc.
