More Hands & More Hearts
This month HHI launched its newest training center in Kerala, India.  We led 3 trainings with our new partners of SJC Trust, an orphanage/adoption center, which cares for 64 children. A total of 50 women participated -representing 5 different orphanages, 4 government groups, as well as local women who will be hired with HHI's support - for their 1st jobs ever!  Their reach is over 300 babies and children!  HHI also has 2 newly certified HHI Trainers who already have a waiting list to provide trainings locally and around their district to other orphanages and government agencies.

    

HHI envisions a world where all children are touched, nutured, and loved by women empowered to actively contribute to their families and communities. 

 
    
Using a curriculum, designed by Utah State University, HHI trains caregivers and women seeking employment on Early Childhood Development, with an emphasis on attachment/bonding and play.  We use games, puppet shows, songs, infant massage, lectures and study groups.  The women and children laugh, play, learn and enjoy!

  

What could just one HHI Trainer do?
During June and July, HHI had only 1 Trainer in India. In this time she led HHI trainings at 3 orphanages - training 47 women, reaching 265 orphaned children!

When interviewed, orphanage Directors reported that after an HHI training: the children were sick less often, recovered quicker (thereby needing less medicines), showed increased weight gain, and were easier to soothe.  The caregivers were seen to be more nurturing and responsive to the babies, the hygiene was improved and in general living conditions were enhanced, and the list went on!
